What Is Marriage Enrichment?

Marriage enrichment is a term that was popularized by David and Vera Mace to help couples with their marital issues. The objectives of this process are to promote mutual commitment to growth in their relationship, to agree on a form of communication in which speaking and listening serves to enhance the marital relationship, to learn how to use conflict in a creative way that helps rather than hinders the relationship, to promote sharing their feelings and to maintain a desire for intimacy through a range of positive interactions.
It is a process that can only be undertaken when the couple both consider their marriage of primary importance in their relationship and where the couple undertake an intentional approach to marriage growth and actually take steps towards improving it. Couples often do this through a marriage enrichment group but they can also practice their interaction skills alone with their partner or other couples who have committed to this process.
