The Necessity Of Rehumanizing Men Of Color
Too many see men of color as avatars symbolizing whatever it is that they see them as, be it criminals, abusers, or gang members. We need to stop seeing them in such limited roles and as they truly are, as we do any other human. It is easy to see them as such thanks to their portrayal in media, even their own media, and that is something that we simply need to stop doing.
By rehumanizing men of color, we return them to the fold of mankind in general and gain back their history and experiences, something that we are sorely lacking. By excluding any person from humanity as a whole, by putting them outside humanity, we do damage to ourselves, and only by rehumanizing those excluded, by bringing them back into the fold, can we undo that damage and heal humanity as a whole.
