What Are Digital Workflows?

Workflows represent the combination of tasks and processes that people perform to achieve business objectives. A task is the simplest element of a workflow and comprise a specific set of steps that are performed to achieve part of a larger process. In turn processes are combined together to form a workflow.
A digital workflow uses automation, software and other enabling digital technologies to digitize and automate manual tasks and processes. Using digital technology does not always mean replicating manual processes (although sometimes this is the case), rather it can often include a rethinking of the process as a whole and taking advantage of the technology to re-design and streamline component tasks.
To implement digital workflows in a workplace requires the engagement of all its members, from the executive suite to the lowliest employee, to be implemented successfully since people are always the most important element of any organization.
