How To Become A Marriage Celebrant In NSW Australia
To legally marry people a person must be an authorised marriage civil celebrant NSW Australia. There are over 9000 celebrants in Australia. There are four types of ways to register to become a celebrant:
• Commonwealth registered civil celebrants
• Commonwealth registered religious celebrants
• Ministers of religion who are registered with the relevant state and territory registry of births, deaths and marriages
• State and territory officers
A Commonwealth registered celebrant must be registered by the Attorney General’s Department of the Australian government. To be registered as a marriage celebrant a person must have one of the following:
• A Certificate IV in the practice of celebrancy from a registered training organisation
• Another qualification in celebrancy
• Demonstrated skills in celebrancy
There are also provisions for people of Australian indigenous heritage to become celebrants which have specific criteria.
